TDCA Working For The Village

The Tideswell and District Community Association (TDCA) is an umbrella body firmly based in the local community. Our core objective is to promote everything Tideswell and offer support to community associations, sports clubs, societies and village events.

The 200+ Club is a lottery which is the main fundraising arm of the Association. The money TDCA raises enables us to run events and support local projects and organisations. See more

IMPORTANT: This site is also intended to provide an informal information portal for all things Tideswell for residents and people new to the area..

What do we do?

The first event organised was a bonfire and fireworks display in 1987, subsequently held annually until being prevented by Covid. Over the years the TDCA has run many fund-raising events including coffee mornings, car boot sales, dog shows, treasure hunts, and even sheep roasts, with our main source of income over the years being the 200+ Club which has allowed the TDCA to provide small grants for a long list of local organisations, plus helping to improve the environment of the village by providing flower troughs.

Through 'fun events' and other activities the TDCA raises money to support local non-profit groups on a grants basis. In addition the TDCA also works with other partner groups in the village such as the Tideswell Parish Council with a general look to improve the quality of life in the village for all residents and visitors, by providing things such as entertainment featuring home-grown village talent, through to improving the village generally by installing flower displays and also assisting with village Christmas lights.

The TDCA Team

The TDCA and all they achieve would not exist if it were not for the efforts of a dedicated committee of volunteers who give up their free time to make these fund-raising events and grants possible.

Sandra Howard joined the
TDCA in 1996 serving as secretary until 2014, becoming elected chair in 2015. Sandra has been heavily involved in a number of hugely time-consuming projects including the Sports Complex project which was initially headed up by Eric Simpson with Sandra being secretary during the Lottery application. It was under Sandra’s time that the very popular Tideswell Proms was introduced which we are hoping will return in full in 2022. After an impressive 25 years-service to the TDCA Sandra stepped down as Chair in August 2021 but remains a much-valued committee member.

Taking over the reigns from Sandra Howard is Bernard O’Sullivan, who moved to Tideswell in 2014 and from the onset felt it was important to contribute to village activities. He joined the
TDCA association in 2016 and became chair in August this year. Bernard told the VV in 2021 that “Sandra’s achievements as chair will be a very hard act to follow, and trying to emulate her stewardship is quite a daunting prospect, but I believe that a vibrant active community spirit is only achieved through our volunteers and through the support of the wider village, please help us to support the village”

Future Plans

Once life has returned to something approaching normal, the TDCA will continue to come up with all sorts of meetings and events including sports to benefit groups and associations and include everyone in the village. One major project currently being planned involves a wholesale re-think of the sports complex including refurbishment of the interior of the main pavilion. Leading this project is the Tideswell and District Sports Committee (TDSA) a TDCA sub-committee. It is hoped that the newly re-thought interior layout will reflect changing interests and demands and provide the people of Tideswell with sports and recreation facilities for everyone suitable for the next twenty years.

The
TDCA welcomes applications from local clubs and associations, for more information please email the TDCA directly on  info@tideswell-dca.co.uk
